DALLAS, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's golf team used strong play from the bottom portion of its lineup to post a 3.5-1.5 victory over Misericordia at sun-splashed Irem Temple Country Club on Sunday afternoon.
The Royals (4-2) received wins from sophomore Brianna Stein (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) at no. 2, and juniors Maura McDonough (Dunmore, Pa./Holy Cross) and Maggie McDonough (Dunmore, Pa./Holy Cross) at nos. 4 and 5, respectively, while knocking off the Cougars for the second time this fall.
All three Royals who won did so in impressive fashion. Stein was a 6 & 4 winner while Maura McDonough posted an 8 & 7 win. Maggie McDonough was the most dominant of the trio, winning each of the first 10 holes for a 10 & 8 victory.
Scranton also received a half at no. 3 from senior Julie Cranney (Exton, Pa/Downingtown East).
The women's golf team will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 3, when the Royals travel to Madison, N.J. to compete in the Drew Invitational starting at noon.
