RADNOR, Pa. - Senior Meghan Kerr (Warwick, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic) scored five goals on the evening, but it wasn't enough to lift the University of Scranton women's lacrosse team to a victory at Cabrini, as the Royals dropped a 20-14 decision to the host Cavaliers in non-conference action on Tuesday.

With the loss, Scranton dropped to 9-5 overall, while Cabrini improved to 14-3 overall with the victory.

In the opening half, scoring for both teams came early and often, as the Royals opened a 4-3 lead on Cabrini with 16 minutes left in the period on a goal by junior Colleen O'Rourke (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy).

Cabrini, however, attacked back, scoring six goals in a row to open a 9-4 lead on the Royals with 9:53 left in the period.

The scoring run by Cabrini was critical for the rest of the match, as the closest the Royals came to the Cavalier lead the rest of the first half was three goals, as Cabrini took an 11-8 lead into intermission.

In the second half, both teams traded goals to start the period, but Cabrini proceeded to go on a back-breaking 5-1 scoring run that put them up for good at 17-10 with 21:49 left in regulation.

The closest Scranton came to the Cabrini lead the rest of the game was six goals, as the host Cavaliers coasted down the stretch to take the match by that six-goal margin.

Overall, Kerr had a big match in a losing effort, pouring in five goals, which was her second highest total of the year in a match. Meanwhile, junior Kailyn Angelo (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) added three goals in the defeat, while sophomore Katie Rogers (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) scored twice.

Defensively, freshman Becca Russo (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) led the Royals in ground balls in the victory, finishing with a team-high six for the evening.

The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday, hosting Stockton in their final regular season match of the 2017 season at Fitzpatrick Field. The game, which will serve as the programs Senior Day, begins at 3 p.m.
