Nine different players scored goals as The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team defeated DeSales, 13-7, on Wednesday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Field to remain unbeaten early in the season.

The Royals (3-0) scored three goals in the opening 4:16, led 4-0 after one period and 10-3 with five minutes gone in the third period. Senior midfielder Conor Carey (Long Beach, N.Y./Chaminade) led the offense with three goals and an assist, sophomore attackman Quinn Killeen (Berkeley Heights, N.J./New Providence) and sophomore midfielder Joe Hill (South Hempstead, N.Y./South Side) both had two goaks, and sophomore attackman Connor Kirkwood (Millburn, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) added a goal and two assists.

Senior midfielder Adam Drury (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) had a big game in the faceoff circle, going 18-for-20 and scooping up three ground balls. His play on restarts helped the Royals control possession and post a commanding 42-24 edge in shots taken.

Scranton also received one goal each from senior attackman Patrick O'Rourke (Floral Park, N.Y./Chaminade), junior attackman Tim Dolan (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), sophomore midfielder Michael Elefonte (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon), freshman midfielder Jalen Holmes (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and freshman attackman Brian Dignen (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East). Sophomore attackman Mike Modesti (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) added an assist, as well.

Senior goalkeeper Jeff Sabatini (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) finished with eight saves for his third win of the season. Junior long stick midfielder Adam Maiale (Blue Bell, Pa./La Salle College H.S.) had a team-high four caused turnovers and tied for the team lead with Elefonte and Carey with five ground balls. Sabatini and Dolan each scooped up four ground balls, and freshman defender Michael Grant (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) also had two caused turnovers.

Scranton was 18-for-23 overall in faceoffs and was successful on 14 of 17 clear attempts. The Royals committed 25 turnovers, but had a 46-30 edge in ground balls. DeSales committed 20 turnovers of its own.

The Royals are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 24, when they head to Allentown, Pa. to take on Muhlenberg in a non-conference game at 1 p.m.
