SCRANTON, Pa. – The No. 2 University of Scranton women's basketball team (10-0) outscored Rosemont by a 20-5 margin in the second quarter and cruised to a 100-44 win over the Ravens (3-6) in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at the John Long Center in Scranton.

This marks the first time that the Lady Royals have scored 100 points since a 100-69 victory over Salem State on Dec. 30, 2004 and the 32nd time in program history.

Scranton led 20-11 after one quarter and used the big second quarter run to take a 40-16 lead into the locker room.

The Lady Royals featured a balanced attack offensively with 10 players scoring seven or more points including a team-high 12 points from senior Makenzie Mason (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West). Mason was joined in double figures by sophomore guard Emily Shurina (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) who had 11 points and the freshmen trio of Bridget Monaghan (Florham Park, N.J./Morristown-Beard), Kyra Quigley (Drexel Hill, Pa./Sacred Heart Academy Bryn Mawr) and Sara Walsh (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) who had 10 points apiece. Fellow freshman Hannah Angelini (Baldwin Place, N.Y./Somers) added a season-high seven points, seven assists and five rebounds.

Shirle Brown had 15 points to pace Rosemont and Ke'Alohilani Naone-Carter tallied 14.

Rosemont took a 10-9 lead with 3:51 to play in the first quarter, but Scranton closed the quarter on an 11-1 spurt that featured five points from junior Taylor Rodriguez (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills). The Lady Royals led 22-13 with 9:31 left in the second quarter and a three-pointer from Monaghan ignited a 13-0 run that sophomore Danielle McCurdy (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) finished off with a three-point play to make it a 35-13 game with 2:06 left in the first half. The hosts took the afore-mentioned 40-16 advantage into the locker room.

Mason scored seven of Scranton's first 11 points in the third quarter and a free throw from McCurdy stretched the lead to 51-16 with 6:29 left in the quarter. Angelini hit a layup in the closing seconds to make it a 69-27 game after three. The Lady Royals scored 31 points in the fourth quarter and a triple from sophomore Carly Heineman (Abington, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) extended the lead to 59 points at 99-40 with 1:19 to play before classmate Erin Worzel (Hawley, Pa./Wallenpaupack) sank a free throw in the final minute to hit the 100-point mark.

Head coach Nick DiPillo's squad shot 51.4% (36-of-70) from the floor and 44.8% (13-of-29) from three-point range, while holding Rosemont to 28.3% shooting (15-of-53) from the field and 4-of-14 (28.6%) from deep. Scranton held a 44-38 edge on the boards led by five caroms apiece from Angelini and Shurina.

This also marked the second consecutive game that the Lady Royals forced their opponent to commit 30 turnovers.

The No. 2 Lady Royals will head west to compete in the D3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas and will battle No. 9/13 George Fox on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. eastern and 4 p.m. pacific time.
