WILKES-BARRE - Against a strong field on Sunday at the Wilkes Open, senior Keegan Connelly (Schnecksville, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) and freshman Jeremiah Oakes (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) put together a pair of solid efforts in their respective weight classes on the afternoon for The University of Scranton wrestling team.
At 285 pounds, Connelly went 2-1 overall to finish second in the weight class. After receiving a first round bye, Connelly won a pair of bouts by decision, knocking off Caleb Warner from Millersville, 7-4, and Tim Nagosky from Long Island University, 7-4, to move to the 285 finals. There, he fell to Seth Nevills of Penn State, 17-2.
Oakes, meanwhile, bounced back from a First Round loss to take a pair of bouts to also go 2-1 on the day at 165 pounds. His victories came over Faryd Daza of Muhlenburg, 8-3, and Scott Defex of Nassau County C.C., 3-2.

The University of Scranton wrestling team returns to action on Jan. 8, hosting Hunter in the John Long Center. Action gets underway at 2 p.m.
