MOOSIC, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's golf team defeated Misericordia in a dual match on Monday afternoon, 357-391. The Royals, who had two of the top three scores on the day, improved to 13-2 on the season with the victory while the Cougars slipped to 4-6-1 on the year.
Freshman Emma Nemitz (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) topped Scranton's finishers in the nine-golfer field with a round of 83, one stroke behind Misericordia's top finisher, Maddie Wharton on the par 71, 6,308-yard course.
Junior Brianna Stein (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) was Scranton's second finisher and third overall by after completing the course in 86 strokes while senior Maura McDonough (Dunmore, Pa./Holy Cross) carded a 93 to finish fifth overall.
Senior Maggie McDonough (Dunmore, Pa./Holy Cross) placed sixth in the field with a score of 95 while freshman Gabriele Hanstein (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) rounded out finishers for the Royals with a 96, good for seventh place.
Scranton is scheduled to return to the Glenmaura National Golf Club on Tuesday for the Glenmaura Collegiate Tournament starting at 12 p.m.
