Arcadia 11, Scranton 3 (5 innings)
An eight run fourth inning for Arcadia proved costly as the Royals eventually fell to the Knights by a score of 11-3 on Sunday evening.
The Royals led 1-0 after the first as junior Alyssa Segnello (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a single, took third on a wild pitch and scored when senior Heather Alich (Bath, Pa./Northampton Area) reached on an error.
That 1-0 advantage would stand up until the afore-mentioned eight run fourth inning for the Knights when Effie Jamanis delivered a two-run single and Nathalia Diianni came through with a two-run double. Arcadia tacked on three more runs in the fifth inning, but the Royals got two back in the bottom of the frame with a two-run triple from sophomore Jessica Stadler (Monmouth Junction, N.J./South Brunswick).
In the circle for the Royals, graduate student Jennifer Sweeney (Wind Gap, Pa./Dumont) was dealt the loss as she allowed the 11 runs on eight hits while fanning three over five innings of work. Brenna Dolan gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits to go along with two walks and two strikeouts in 4 2/3 IP and earned the win for Arcadia.
Stadler led the way offensively for Scranton with two hits in the contest.
The Royals are back in action at The Spring Games on Tuesday as they take on Wisconsin-Lutheran at 1:45 p.m. and Carthage at 4:15 p.m.
