Senior Tyler Kirsten (Wallenpaupack, Pa./Wallenpaupack Area) drove in 15 runs in four games last week and helped lead The University of Scranton baseball team to a 3-1 week. For his efforts, Kirsten has been named Scranton Athlete of the Week for the period ending Apr. 17, 2022.
This marks the third career Scranton Athlete of the Week honor for the senior shortstop who previously won the award on Apr. 26 and May 24, 2021.
Kirsten hit .444 (8-18) in four games last week with a double, two triples, a home run, 15 RBI and five runs scored. He started the week with a grand slam and five RBI in a 10-9 13 inning victory over Misericordia and followed that up by driving in a career-high six runs in a 22-4 victory at Wilkes. On Saturday versus Susquehanna, Kirsten cleared the bases with a three-run triple as the Royals picked up a rain-shortened 6-0 victory in game two of the doubleheader.
On the season, the Wallenpaupack, Pa., native is hitting .395 with two home runs, 44 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 25 runs scored in 24 games. He leads the Landmark Conference and ranks tied for ninth nationally with his 44 RBI, while also sitting fourth in the Landmark in batting average.
The Royals host William Paterson in a non-conference tilt on Tuesday evening at Volpe Field with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
