Box Score 2 SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton softball team (11-6, 3-1 Landmark) won game one by a score of 11-3 in five innings and settled for a split of a Landmark Conference doubleheader with the Drew Rangers (16-8, 3-3 Landmark) on Saturday afternoon at Magis Field in Scranton.
Following the Royals' game one victory, the Rangers captured a 2-1 win in game two.
Game One
The Royals scored 10 runs over the first three innings including a six-run third and rolled to the 11-3 victory in game one of Saturday's twinbill.
Graduate student Jennifer Sweeney (Wind Gap, Pa./Dumont) put the hosts on the board with an RBI single in the first and two batters later, junior Alyssa Segnello (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) delivered a two-run single to make it a 3-0 game. In the home half of the second, junior Lauren Cawley (Duryea, Pa./Scranton Prep) walked, stole second, took third on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI single from senior Jessica Indelicato (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) for a 4-0 lead.
Following a run from Drew in the top of the third, Scranton immediately answered with six in the home half including a two-run blast from sophomore Sarah Stepnowski (Monroe Twp., N.J./Monroe) and a two-run single by Indelicato that extended the lead to 10-1.
Bailey Comeau was dealt the loss for the Rangers as she allowed the 11 runs on 10 hits to go along with three walks and five strikeouts in 4 2/3 IP.
Freshman Emma Tirollo (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional) notched the win in the circle for Scranton after giving up three runs on four hits while walking three and fanning four over five innings of work.
Stepnowski plated the decisive run to bring the run rule into effect with two outs in the fifth as she came through with a two-out RBI single to score junior Jenna Davida (Congers, N.Y./Clarkstown North).
The trio of Indelicato (2-3, 3 RBI, SB, R), Segnello (2-3, 2 RBI, R) and Stepnowski (2-3, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R) all tallied multi-hit games for the Royals.
Game Two
Drew's Madi Precht provided the go-ahead RBI single in the top of the sixth as Scranton dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker in the nightcap.
The Rangers struck first with a run in the first and the Royals later tied the game in the third inning as sophomore Jessica Stadler (Monmouth Junction, N.J./South Brunswick) singled, took second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on Indelicato's sac fly.
In a 1-1 game, Scranton had a chance to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth with runners at first and second and no outs, but Drew's Teagan Bradley was able to work her way out of the jam.
Sweeney was dealt the tough luck loss for the Royals as she allowed two runs on seven hits to go along with four walks and four strikeouts in 7.0 IP.
Bradley registered the win for the Rangers after being charged with the one run on six hits and fanning five in a complete game effort.
Davida (2-4) and Stadler (2-3, R) both recorded multi-hit games for the Royals in the setback.
The University of Scranton softball team will host Lebanon Valley in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday with first pitch of game one at Magis Field slated for 4 p.m.
