Box Score HUNTINGDON, PA (April 30, 2022) -- The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team earned a convincing 22-7 win over Juniata in its final regular season game of the season on Saturday afternoon.
Juniata scored the opening goal of the game but Scranton responded well with back-to-back goals from juniors Matt Solleder (Ramsey, N.J. / Don Bosco Prep) and Mitchell Kozak (Floral Park, N.Y. / Floral Park Memorial) to take a 2-1 lead. Senior Cole Lukasiewicz (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford) added to the tally for the Royals late in the opening period as the game was tied up at 3-3 headed into the second quarter.
Scranton scored two straight to begin the second period as freshman Liam Sayre (Ramsey, N.J. / Don Bosco Prep) and junior Oliver Lay (Fairfield, Conn. / Fairfield Ludlowe) each found the back of the net. The Royals added three more in the second period to take an 8-5 lead into halftime.
The Royals were dominant coming out of the break as they blanked Juniata in the third period and scored seven goals to take a 15-5 lead. Lay scored twice in the third period to complete his hat trick for Scranton.
More of the same occured in the fourth period as Scranton scored seven more goals while holding the Eagles to just two to secure a 22-7 Landmark win.
Joining Lay with a hat trick in the game was freshman Colin Hughes (Massapequa, N.Y. / Chaminade) while senior Steve Apicella (Stony Point, N.Y. / North Rockland) dished out a game-high six assists.
The Royals will now prepare for the Landmark playoffs as they are set to travel to Elizabethtown on Wednesday at 4:00 PM for the opening round.
