Box Score SCRANTON, PA (April 9, 2022) -- The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team (6-5, 1-2 Landmark) earned its first Landmark Conference win of the season on Saturday afternoon as the Royals took down Susquehanna University (7-6, 1-2 Landmark) by a score of 13-9 at Weiss Field.
Scranton went up 2-0 early in the first quarter as senior Mike Bouhall (Lynbrook, N.Y. / Lynbrook) scored off the opening faceoff and junior Mitchell Kozak (Floral Park, N.Y. / Floral Park Memorial) followed up with a tally off an assist from sophomore Matthew McAree (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset). The Riverhawks answered with a pair of goals to level the game at 2-2 headed into the second period.
JuniorChris Crapanzano (Basking Ridge, N.J. / Ridge) got his day going in the early stages of the second period as he scored off an assist from Bouhall. Scranton kept things rolling as junior Matt Solleder (Ramsey, N.J. / Don Bosco Prep) found the back of the net off a feed from McAree to give the Royals a 4-2 lead. McAree then added a goal of his own before Crapanzano wrapped up the dominant second quarter with a nifty behind the back goal to give Scranton a 6-2 lead at the half.
Following a goal from Susquehanna to open up the third period, the Royals scored three straight as Crapanzano scored the first to notch his hat trick and Kozak scored the next two to secure a hat trick of his own. McAree scored his second of the day in the middle stages of the third quarter as Scranton held a 10-5 advantage headed into the fourth.
Junior Nick Donato (Langhorne, Pa. / Neshaminy) and senior Cole Lukasiewicz (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford) each added to the tally for the Royals in the fourth period along with Crapazano and the defense did the rest as the Scranton earned its first conference win this season, 13-9.
Freshman Evan Rosa (Weehawken, N.J. / Pennington School) was stellar in goal again for the Royals, making 12 saves on 21 shots faced. Junior Colin Pierce (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) was strong in the defensive end for Scranton as he recorded a team-high five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday when they head up to Utica College for a non-conference game at 4:00 PM.
