Box Score 2 ANNVILLE, Pa. – The University of Scranton softball team (12-14) dropped a pair of non-conference battles to the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen (23-5) on Monday afternoon at LVC Softball Park in Annville.
Scranton dropped a 3-1 decision in game one before falling by a score of 7-4 in the nightcap.
LVC 3, Scranton 1
The Dutchmen scored all three runs in the first and held on for the 3-1 victory in game one.
In that afore-mentioned first inning, Lindsay McCurdy knocked in the first run of the game for LVC with an RBI single and a Scranton throwing error later in the inning led to two more runs.
Freshman Carley Noble (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) was dealt the tough-luck loss as she allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits to go along with a walk and a strikeout in six innings of work.
Scranton got on the board in the sixth as junior Jessica Stadler (Monmouth Junction, N.J./South Brunswick) led off with a single, advanced to second on a sac bunt and scored on an RBI single from senior Jenna Davida (Congers, N.Y./Clarkstown North) that cut the lead to 3-1.
Erin Sinatra got the win for LVC in a complete game effort after allowing one run on four hits to go along with a walk and five strikeouts.
Davida tallied a pair of hits to lead the way offensively for the Royals.
LVC 7, Scranton 4
The Dutchmen broke a four-all tie with a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to pick up the 7-4 win over Scranton.
A wild pitch brought home the go-ahead run in the fourth and LVC then used a pair of RBI singles in the fifth inning to open up the 7-4 edge.
Sophomore Emma Tirollo (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional) took the loss for the Royals as she gave up the seven runs on 13 hits while walking four and fanning three in 7.0 IP.
Jordan Walter recorded the win in relief for LVC as she allowed a run on four hits to go along with two walks and seven strikeouts over 6 1/3 IP.
Scranton grabbed an early lead in the nightcap with three runs in the first when Davida walked and later came around to score on a wild pitch and senior Alyssa Segnello (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) plated a pair with a two-run triple. However, LVC responded with three runs of their own in the home half including a two-run single from Lexi Smith that tied the game.
LVC regained the lead with a solo run in the second and the Royals later tied the game at four in the top of the fourth as Davida drove home senior Amanda Musmanno (Princeton Junction, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro North) via an RBI single.
Six different players registered one hit apiece for Scranton.
The Royals return home to host Moravian in a key Landmark Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon with first pitch of game one slated for 1 p.m.
