Box Score 2 DALLAS, Pa. – The University of Scranton softball team (10-10) dropped a pair of two-run contests to the Misericordia Cougars (13-7) in non-conference action on Monday afternoon at Anderson Field in Dallas.
Scranton dropped a tough 4-2 decision in game one and then fell 2-0 in the nightcap.
Misericordia 4, Scranton 2
A four-run third proved costly as the Cougars picked up the 4-2 victory in game one on Monday.
The Royals got on the board first with a run in the top of the first as senior Jenna Davida (Congers, N.Y./Clarkstown North) led off with a single, advanced to second on a sac bunt and scored when freshman Emmie Feltenberger (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) reached on an error charged to Misericordia 2B Nicole Elliott.
Elliott gave Misericordia the lead with a two-run triple in the third inning and a walk and a sac fly brought home the other two runs in the frame.
Sophomore Emma Tirollo (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional) was dealt the loss in the circle for Scranton as she allowed four runs on two hits to go along with five walks and two strikeouts over 2 1/3 IP.
Marisa Kelly got the win for the Cougars after allowing two runs (one earned) on eight hits while fanning three over 7.0 IP.
Scranton began to battle back and cut the lead to 4-2 with a run in the sixth when junior Sarah Stepnowski (Monroe Twp., N.J./Monroe) knocked in a run with an RBI double.
Davida (2-4, R) and sophomores Alyssa Mosconi (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) and Kylie Rochford (Tinton Falls, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) who each added two hits apiece all recorded multi-hit games for the Royals.
In relief of Tirollo, sophomore Hannah Keane (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) scattered three hits and struck out a pair over 3 2/3 shutout innings.
Misericordia 2, Scranton 0
Misericordia scored solo runs in the first and fifth innings and the Royals were unable to solve the Cougars' Alexa McHugh in the 2-0 setback.
Trailing 2-0 at the time, the Royals had two runners one with one out in the sixth before McHugh got a strikeout and a pop out to work her way out of the inning.
McHugh surrendered six hits while walking one and fanning six in a complete game effort.
For Scranton, freshman Carley Noble (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) took the tough luck loss as she gave up two runs (one earned) on six hits to go along with a walk and three strikeouts in six innings of work.
Junior Jessica Stadler (Monmouth Junction, N.J./South Brunswick) tallied a pair of hits in the contest for the Royals.
The University of Scranton softball team will host Catholic in a key Landmark Conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at Magis Field with first pitch of game one slated for 3 p.m.
