Following a stellar senior season, guard Bridget Monaghan (Florham Park, N.J./Morristown-Beard) of The University of Scranton women's basketball team has had her jersey chosen to be displayed in the Ring of Honor at the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in recognition of her outstanding play during the 2022-23 season.
Monaghan's jersey will be on display from now through May 2024 at the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Tenn.
"The Ring of Honor is an exhibit at the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame where we honor the nation's top players at every level," Kelly Mathis, Director of Development for the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, said. "To have your jersey on display at the Hall of Fame is a huge privilege and we are proud to celebrate the accomplishments of these young women."
The display includes jerseys of the top high school and college players from the previous season. The Ring of Honor has displayed jerseys from some of the best players in the world including Candace Parker, Sue Bird, Kelsey Plum, Breanna Stewart, and Aja Wilson.
This marks the second consecutive year that the Lady Royals have had a player's jersey displayed following Abby Anderson in 2021-22.Â
During the 2022-23 campaign, Monaghan started all 29 games for the Lady Royals and averaged 15.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 38.1% from the floor. In an 80-47 victory over George Fox on Dec. 29, 2022, Monaghan became the 31st player in program history to score 1,000 career points. The Florham Park, N.J., native scored in double figures 24 times and scored 20 plus-points seven times including a career-high 34 in an NCAA Tournament Second Round game versus Rhode Island College.
