SCRANTON, Pa. – Sophomore Jimmy O'Malley (Maple Glen, Pa./LaSalle College) recorded the second-fastest time in program history in the 1,000 freestyle and The University of Scranton men's swimming & diving team dropped a 183-60 decision to the United States Merchant Marine Academy in dual meet action on Sunday afternoon at the Byron Recreation Complex in Scranton.
The Royals are now 7-3 in dual meets on the season.
O'Malley finished second in the 1,000 free with a time of 9:56.31, which surpasses his previous personal-best time of 10:03.30 that had been set on Jan. 28, 2023.
Senior Scott Majka (Marysville, Pa./Trinity) added a second-place finish in the 50 free with a time of 23.04 seconds and sophomore Matt Sherry (Glenside, Pa./LaSalle College) took second in the 100 fly in 52.34 seconds. Majka also finished third in the 100 free with a time of 49.84 seconds.
For Sherry, his time of 52.04 seconds marked the eighth-fastest in program history.
In the 100 back, sophomore Mike Finley (New Milford, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) placed second with a time of 54.69 seconds and O'Malley took second in the 500 free in 4:52.05.
The quartet of Majka, Sherry, Finley and junior Ryan Valle (Norristown, Pa./Methacton) took second in the 200 free relay in a time of 1:30.15.
Scranton will host Susquehanna in a dual meet on Saturday afternoon at the Byron Recreation Complex with action set to get underway at 1 p.m.
