CHESTER, PA - The University of Scranton women's swimming team kicked off their 2024-25 schedule by defeating Widener, 182-79 inside of the Schwartz Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.
- The Royals earned their first victory of the day in the 200 yard medley relay. The Royals quartet included sophomore Kim Gingrass, senior Alanna Kelly, freshman Alyssa Bean, and senior Aviah Dahlgren who finished in 1:55.66.
- The Royals had the top two finishers in women's 1000 yard freestyle in graduate student Jaclyn Papalski who finished in first-place with a time of 11:36.74 and second-place finisher, sophomore Katherine Grefski who swam the event in 12:04.65.
- Gingrass earned three more individual victories on the afternoon in the women's 200 yard freestyle in a time of 2:02.02, the 100 yard freestyle in 56.33, and the women's 200 yard IM in 2:19.84.
- In the women's 50 yard backstroke, Kelly took home first-place in 33.55 and sophomore Meredith Sulman finished in second in 34.68.
- Bean won the women's 100 yard butterfly in 1:01.10 and the 50 yard butterfly in 28.06.
- Sophomore Sophia Markatos earned first-place in the women's 100 yard backstroke in 1:04.96.
- Kelly earned her first individual victory of the day in the women's 100 yard breaststroke in 1:12.86. Right behind her, sophomore Gianna Horen who swam the event in 1:14.04.
- Dahlgren (5:30.61), Papalski (5:41.34) and senior Bella Davis (5:51.87) were the top-three finishers in the women's 500 yard freestyle.
- The women's 400 yard freestyle relay team made up of Dahlgren, Bean, Horn, and freshman Nicole Koltsov finished in 3:50.39.
The women's swimming team will begin the season's home schedule with a meet in the Byron Recreational Complex next Saturday, October 19 at 1:00 PM against Ithaca College.
