Men's Lacrosse to Clash with Susquehanna in Thursday's Landmark Semis

Following a 19-10 victory over Drew in Tuesday's quarterfinals, The No. 3 seed University of Scranton men's lacrosse team is set to clash with No. 2 seed Susquehanna in Thursday's Landmark semifinals with action slated to get underway at 4 p.m. at Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.

Thursday's winner will advance to Saturday's Landmark title game against the winner of No. 1 seed Elizabethtown/No. 4 seed Catholic at the site of the highest remaining seed.

Admission to Thursday's semifinal is $7 for adults 18+ and $4 for children ages 10-17. Children ages nine and under are admitted free of charge, as are all Landmark Conference students, faculty and staff with their school ID.

This marks the fifth all-time playoff meeting between the two programs with the River Hawks winning three of the previous four including a victory in the 2019 semifinals.

In Tuesday's 19-10 win over Drew, sophomore Kyle Holmes (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) matched his career-high with five goals and senior Seamus O'Callaghan (Bethpage, N.Y./Chaminade) and freshman Myles McCutcheon (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) added three apiece. Sophomore goalie Declan Allen (Garden City, N.Y./Millbrook) made eight saves in the victory.

McCutcheon was named Landmark Rookie of the Year on Tuesday and graduate student Colin Pierce (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) earned Defensive Player of the Year accolades. Pierce also received All-Conference First Team recognition along with senior attacker Matthew McAree (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) and senior midfielder Alex Eglitis (Randolph, N.J./Randolph).

Offensively, McAree leads the team with 42 goals, 21 assists and 63 points, Holmes has added 40 goals and McCutcheon has tallied 36 goals of his own. Eglitis has 36 points on 25 goals and 11 assists while collecting 36 ground balls.

Pierce ranks second on the team in both ground balls (72) and caused turnovers (21).

Junior John O'Connor (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) has won 49.7% of faceoffs and ranks fifth in the conference with 83 ground balls, while fellow junior Zachariah Palinkas (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) leads the team and ranks fifth with 29 caused turnovers.

Susquehanna's Brennan Lorence leads the Landmark with 55 goals and was named Offensive Player of the Year on Tuesday, while three others earned First Team honors including goalie Jozef Korpics.

Lorence and Jack Gaillard are tied for the team lead with 61 points and Gaillard sits second in the conference with 39 assists.
