Scranton, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's swimming team opened its 2025–26 campaign in commanding fashion, cruising to a 209–53 victory over Widener University at the Byron Recreation Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The Royals came out strong in the opening 200-yard medley relay, sweeping the top three spots. The "A" squad of Jake Brunetti (FR), Conor Doogan (JR), Matt Sherry (SR), and Owen Sherry (FR) led the way with a winning time of 1:36.96, setting the tone for a dominant afternoon.
Senior Jimmy O'Malley headlined the distance events, earning wins in both the 1000-yard freestyle (10:11.60) and 500-yard freestyle (4:58.55). Junior Christopher Clarke followed closely behind in both races, contributing valuable points to the team's tally.
Freshman Jake Brunetti continued his strong debut by capturing titles in the 50-yard backstroke (24.58) and 100-yard backstroke (53.64), while sophomore Ethan Kwon picked up the victory in the 200-yard individual medley (2:03.38) and a runner-up finish in the 100 back.
Senior Matt Sherry delivered a pair of first-place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly (53.85) and 50-yard butterfly (24.03), while his younger brother, freshman Owen Sherry, sprinted to victory in the 50-yard freestyle (21.95) and anchored multiple relay wins.

Scranton capped off the meet with an emphatic victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as Craig Clarke, Zach Leonard, Matt Sherry, and Jake Brunetti posted a winning time of 3:17.38 to seal the sweep.
With the 209–53 triumph, the Royals captured victories in nearly every men's event, showcasing both depth and early-season form.
