For the second consecutive week, Deanna Whelpley of The University of Scranton women's volleyball team has been named the Landmark Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week after powering the Royals to a perfect 3-0 weekend at home. 

Whelpley recorded 69 kills over three matches — a five-set win over Eastern, a five-set victory against Rowan, and a four-set match versus Union (NY) — hitting an impressive .371 clip across the weekend.

She opened the weekend on Friday, September 19, with 25 kills and 7 digs in a hard-fought five-set win against Eastern. On Saturday, she tallied 20 kills and hit .340 against Rowan in another five-set battle, then closed the day with a season-best .523 hitting percentage and 24 kills on 44 swings in a four-set win over Union (NY).

Whelpley's consistent high-level play has helped Scranton improve to 8-4 on the season and extend their winning streak to six matches.

Whelpley and the Royals will return to action this weekend at the Swarthmore Invitational along with Suffolk and Stockton.
