Royal Reflection: Kelsey Myler, Women's Track & Field

Interview Conducted by Athletic Communications Intern Mallory Woodland

Royal Reflection highlights the senior student-athletes who represent what it means to be a Royal. In this edition, we feature Kelsey Myler of The University of Scranton Women's Track and Field team as she reflects on the moments that defined her time as a Royal.

Describe your Scranton experience in three words

  • Vibrant, rewarding, and valuable

What does being a Royal athlete mean to you?

  • To me being a Royal athlete means being more than one thing. Of course, I want to be a great at running and hurdling and jumping, but I also want to be a great teammate, student, and friend to those around me.

Do you have a go-to pre-game or pre-competition ritual?

  • I have to hold my breath before the gun goes off for every race.

What's the biggest lesson you've learned as a Royal athlete?

  • The more love you find in your sport, the more success you will have.

Favorite memory?

  • My teammates and I made an ice bath in our hotel room the night before the conference championship meet. We made like 6 trips to the ice machine and used rollers to stir the water.

What's something you've learned from a teammate that has stuck with you?

  • The people around me have taught me by example how important work ethic is and continue to push me to do my best every day.

Any advice for incoming student-athletes?

  • College athletics is so different from high school, so be patient, don't stress too much, and your time will come.

What are you most proud of from your time at Scranton?

  • I am most proud of breaking the outdoor 4x400 school record with my teammates sophomore year. I had fallen over the last hurdle in the 400H about an hour before and scraped up my knees. My coach wanted to pull me from the relay, but I begged him to let me still run it and ended up running my fastest split by almost 2 seconds.

What's one message you'd like to leave for your teammates?

  • Nothing can be a failure if you keep going.
