Box Score 4 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The University of Scranton softball team opened play at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic with a 3-1 record across its first four games in Myrtle Beach this past weekend.
Scranton fell in its tournament opener on Saturday morning, dropping an 8-3 decision to Fairleigh Dickinson University–Florham. The Royals recorded four hits in the contest and pushed across three runs, including a two-run first inning, but the Devils pulled away with multiple runs in the middle innings.
The Royals responded later that morning with a 6-2 victory over Albion College. Emmie Feltenberger led the offense with three hits and four RBIs, including a pair of two-run doubles. Daniela Brescia added two hits and two RBIs, while Mollie Ferreira scored three runs. In the circle, Emma Douglas earned the complete-game victory, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits while striking out seven.
Scranton continued its strong play Sunday morning with a 5-0 shutout over St. Joseph's University–Long Island. The Royals scored four runs in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Alli Babino and an RBI single by Celia Totaro. Scranton added an insurance run in the fifth when Hailey Poskonka was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Douglas was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete-game no-hitter with a career-high 13 strikeouts while allowing just one walk.
The Royals capped the weekend with an 11-4 victory over Centenary University. Scranton struck early with a run in the first before erupting for six runs in the second inning. Alexa Bruno delivered an RBI single before Mollie Ferreira broke the game open with a three-run triple to right field. Brescia later added a two-run single in the inning. Centenary scored four runs in the fifth to trim the deficit to 7-4, but the Royals answered with a run in the sixth on Ferreira's second triple of the game. Scranton added three more runs in the seventh on an RBI single by Madison Byrwa and run-scoring walks from Ellyn Cervona and Ferreira. Ferreira finished with five RBIs to lead the Royals offensively in the win.
