Scranton Women's Basketball Advances to NCAA Second Round With 104-39 Victory Against Framingham State

SCRANTON, Pa. -- The University of Scranton women's basketball team defeated Framingham State 104-39 in the opening round of the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament at the John Long Center Friday night. 

The Basics

  • Final Score: No. 4 Scranton - 104, Framingham State - 39
  • Records: No. 4 Scranton (28-0), Framingham State (17-11)
  • The Lady Royals will face Otterbein University (23-5) in the second-round tomorrow night at 8:30 p.m.
  • Otterbein University defeated Randolph-Macon College 60-45 in tonight's first game.
  • Kaci Kranson became the second leading scorer in program history with 1,938 career points, passing Taryn Mellody '07 (1,932).
  • Scranton's 104 points tonight marked a new program record in an NCAA Tournament game, topping the previous mark of 103 set in 1993. 

How it Happened

  • Meghan Lamanna gave the Royals a hot start from behind the arc, knocking down two quick three-pointers to spark Scranton's 7-0 run in the opening minutes.
  • Balanced scoring led to an early advantage for the Royals, with Jenna Sloan, Kaci Kranson, Sophia Talutto, and Elizabeth Bennett adding early baskets as the offense attacked the rim to stretch the lead.
  • Strong defensive pressure led to 12 steals in the first half, creating transition chances, including a takeaway that set up a Talutto basket, while Bennett added a rebound putback to keep the run going.
  • Katie Gorski controlled the glass with multiple rebound putbacks, while Lamanna added another three-pointer, and Kranson and Bennett both connected from deep as the lead continued to grow.
  • Talutto scored late baskets, including a three-pointer, and Bennett recorded a steal that led to another Talutto three, sending the team into halftime with a commanding 67–16 lead.
  • Gorski kept the momentum rolling, opening the half with a layup, while Bennett added another layup as the team pushed the lead past 70.
  • Selena Cieszko and Kelsey Miedreich each added layups as the bench contributed to extend the lead to 85–26 heading into the fourth.
  • Natalie Stoupakis scored inside before knocking down back-to-back three-pointers, while Sabrina Kraker and Lizzie Halligan each added baskets during a strong offensive stretch.
  • The team closed out the game with a dominant 104–39 victory.
