The University of Scranton men's golf team delivered an impressive performance at the Battle of Basking Ridge, finishing second overall in a deep and competitive 12-team field with a team score of 309 (+25).
Hosted by Stevens Institute of Technology at Basking Ridge Country Club, the event featured a strong collection of regional programs.
Leading the way for the Royals was Richard Essen, who fired a 73 (+2) to secure a runner-up individual finish and continues his strong start to the spring season. Essen was steady throughout, opening with an even-par 36 on the front nine before carding a 37 on the back.
Juliano Nieto added a 77 (+6), while Cade Kelleher followed with a 78 (+7). Jack Novis posted an 81 (+10), and Gehrig Shannon rounded out the lineup with an 84 (+13).
As a team, Scranton finished just behind Stevens Institute of Technology, which took home the title at 296 (+12), while the Royals placed comfortably ahead of the rest of the field.
The Royals will return to action on Friday, April 17, for a dual match against King's College at Wyoming Valley Country Club.
