Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at Landmark Conference Championship

The University of Scranton men's golf team finished fifth at the Landmark Conference Championship following Sunday's final round at Shawnee Golf Course.

The Royals improved by 25 strokes in round two, posting a 298 (+10)—the second-lowest team score of the final round—to finish with a 36-hole total of 621 (+45). Drew University claimed the team title at 584 (+8), while Moravian University placed second and Goucher College took third.

Final Round

The Royals responded with one of the strongest rounds of the day on Sunday, carding a 298 (+10) to secure a fifth-place finish.

Scranton's 298 marked the second-lowest team score of the round, trailing only Drew University.

Cade Kelleher delivered the highlight performance of the tournament for Scranton, firing a 70 (-2) with five birdies to finish tied for sixth overall.

Jack Novis and Richard Essen each turned in rounds of 74 (+2). Essen's round was highlighted by a 35 (-1) on the front nine, while Novis played steady golf throughout to contribute to the team's low score.

Gehrig Shannon improved significantly from Saturday, carding an 80 (+8), and Juliano Nieto added an 81 (+9) to round out the scoring.

Individually, Elliot Parker of Drew University earned medalist honors, posting a tournament-low 66 (-6) in the final round.


Round One

Scranton opened the tournament with a team score of 323 (+35) and sat in fifth place after day one.

Cade Kelleher paced the Royals in the opening round with a 79 (+7), recording two birdies. Jack Novis and Richard Essen each followed with rounds of 80 (+8), with Essen tallying two birdies and highlighting his round with a 38 (+2) on the back nine.

Juliano Nieto posted an 84 (+12), while Gehrig Shannon rounded out the lineup with a 93 (+21).

At the top of the leaderboard, Drew held the early lead at +13, followed by Moravian (+18) and Juniata (+24). Individually, Elliot Parker and Riley Ruby were tied for the low round of the day after matching even-par 72s.


Scranton's strong finish helped the Royals close out a competitive showing at the conference championship.
