The University of Scranton men's golf team delivered a strong performance at the Conquer the Island Invitational, finishing second overall with a team score of 302 (+14) at Shawnee Golf Course.
Drew University captured the team title with a 289 (+1), while the Royals placed comfortably in front of the rest of the field, finishing eight strokes ahead of third-place Stevens Institute "B" (310, +22).
Sophomore Richard Essen led the way for Scranton with an outstanding round of 71 (-1), earning a second-place individual finish. Essen carded four birdies and one eagle on the day.Â
Jack Novis turned in a 76 (+4), including a one-over 37 on the back nine. Cade Kelleher added a 77 (+5), while Juliano Nieto posted a 78 (+6) after an even-par 36 on the front side. Gehrig Shannon rounded out the Royals' lineup with an 80 (+8).
Scranton's balanced effort secured the runner-up finish as the Royals continue their spring campaign.
