Richard Essen has been named Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after a standout stretch of play for The University of Scranton men's golf team.
Essen opened the week with a runner-up finish at the Stevens Institute Invitational, carding a 73 (+2). He was steady throughout the round, shooting an even-par 36 on the front nine before closing with a 37 on the back to secure second place individually.
He followed that performance with a first-place finish at a tri-match against King's College and Wilkes University at Wyoming Valley Country Club. Essen fired a one-under-par 70 to share medalist honors and lead the Royals to a team victory with a score of 293, as Scranton topped King's (325) and Wilkes (339).
Essen's consistency across both events played a key role in Scranton's continued success, as the Royals improved to 8-0 on the season.
