How it Happened
- Catholic jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs on a pair of RBI singles in the first inning to take a 2-0 advantage.
- John Heitzman put Scranton on the board in the top of the fourth, blasting a solo home run to right field to cut the deficit to 2-1.
- Catholic answered in the bottom of the fourth, erupting for five runs on four hits to stretch the lead to 7-1. An RBI double brought home the Cardinals' fourth run. Later in the inning with two outs, a bases-loaded walk forced in a run, a wild pitch allowed another to score, and a two-run single capped the five-run frame.
- The Cardinals added another run in the bottom of the fifth on a one-out RBI double by Gabriel Ruiz to make it 8-1, then scored three more times in the eighth to secure the mercy rule victory.
