Sophomore goalie Krista Mundy (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) made 12 saves, all in the second half, as The University of Scranton field hockey team pushed its winning streak to five games by holding off Moravian College, 2-1, on Wednesday evening at Fitzpatrick Field.

Mundy and the Royals (7-3, 2-0 Landmark) held Moravian at bay until the final 30 seconds. She made numerous saves off the Greyhounds' 12 second-half penalty corners en route to earning her third victory of the season.

Sophomore forward Kathleen Keale (Wall, N.J./Wall) scored the game-winning goal in the 57th minute when she tapped in a rebound of a saved shot, giving the Royals a 2-0 lead. The goal was the first of her career.

Scranton took a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute on a goal by freshman forward Alyssa Whitman (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley), her sixth of the season, all in the past four games. She tapped in a perfect feed at the right post from sophomore Alyssa Fania (Annandale, N.J./North Hunterdon), who earned her third assist of the season.

The Royals had a chance at another goal as time ran out in the first half on a penalty corner, but Greyhounds senior defender Stephanie Pezzello (Holmdel, N.J./St. John Vianney) made a sprawling defensive save when the ball got past senior goalie Catherine Gottlieb (Blackwood, N.J./Paul VI).

Gottlieb made 11 saves for the Greyhounds, who fell to 3-6 overall and 0-3 in the Landmark Conference.

The Royals dodged their own bullet when Moravian failed to convert a penalty stroke with less than 10 minutes to play.

Scranton outshot the Greyhounds, 24-22, despite Moravian holding an 18-9 edge in the second half. The Greyhounds also held an overall edge in penalty corners, 15-11, including a 13-4 advantage after the break.

Scranton returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 6, when the Royals host Susquehanna University in a Landmark Conference match at 1 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
