SELINSGROVE, Pa.—The University of Scranton women’s lacrosse team fell behind 6-0 and never recovered in dropping a 12-2 decision to 12th-ranked Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference action Saturday afternoon.

Junior midfielder Emma Ehler (Chatham, NJ/Chatham) scored three of her game-high four goals in the first half as the Crusaders bolted out to an 8-2 halftime lead.  Junior midfielder Michelle McGinniss (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) chipped in three goals and sophomore attacker Meredith Crane (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) contributed two goals and two assists as Susquehanna improved to 12-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

The Royals, who lost their second straight game to fall to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in the Landmark, received a goal apiece from junior attacker Kerry Sullivan (Oceanport, NJ/Shore Regional) and sophomore midfielder Emily Goss (Morristown, NJ/Morristown).   Scranton’s two goals were its lowest output of the season and fewest since scoring two goals in a 15-2 loss at home against Rowan University on April 23, 2009.

The Crusaders held an advantage a number of key statistical categories, including a 37-16 advantage in shots and 11-5 margin in draw controls.

Senior goalkeeper Kathleen Smart (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood) finished with 14 saves while Susquehanna’s Emily Stankaitis (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) stopped 11 shots.

Goss’s goal was her team-leading 40th of the season

The Royals will host Elmira College in a non-conference game at Fitzpatrick Field this Tuesday, April 16, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
