SELINSGROVE, Pa.—The University of Scranton women’s
lacrosse team fell behind 6-0 and never recovered in dropping a
12-2 decision to 12th-ranked Susquehanna University in Landmark
Conference action Saturday afternoon.
Junior midfielder Emma Ehler (Chatham, NJ/Chatham) scored three of
her game-high four goals in the first half as the Crusaders bolted
out to an 8-2 halftime lead. Junior midfielder Michelle
McGinniss (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) chipped in three goals and
sophomore attacker Meredith Crane (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia)
contributed two goals and two assists as Susquehanna improved to
12-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
The Royals, who lost their second straight game to fall to 6-5
overall and 1-2 in the Landmark, received a goal apiece from junior
attacker Kerry Sullivan (Oceanport, NJ/Shore Regional)
and sophomore midfielder Emily
Goss (Morristown, NJ/Morristown).
Scranton’s two goals were its lowest output of the season and
fewest since scoring two goals in a 15-2 loss at home against Rowan
University on April 23, 2009.
The Crusaders held an advantage a number of key statistical
categories, including a 37-16 advantage in shots and 11-5 margin in
draw controls.
Senior goalkeeper Kathleen Smart (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood)
finished with 14 saves while Susquehanna’s Emily Stankaitis
(Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) stopped 11 shots.
Goss’s goal was her team-leading 40th of the season
The Royals will host Elmira College in a non-conference game at
Fitzpatrick Field this Tuesday, April 16, beginning at 6:00
p.m.
