SCRANTON, Pa.—Freshman midfielder Dana Siepietowski (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) scored four goals and senior midfielder Emily Goss (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) added three to lead The University of Scranton women’s lacrosse team to a 17-4 victory over the Merchant Marine Academy in Landmark Conference action Saturday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Field.
The Royals, now 5-6 overall and 3-0 in the conference, also received two goals and an assist apiece from junior midfielder Erin Allen (Syosset, NY/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) and freshman midfielder Erin Pfail (Garden City, NY/Sacred Heart Academy), a goal and four assists from freshman attacker Nichole Palmer (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area), and a goal each from sophomore midfielder Meghan Kerr (Warwick, NY/John S. Burke Catholic), freshman attacker Brianna Maglio (Garden City, NY/Garden City Senior), freshman midfielder Kailyn Angelo (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy), and freshman attacker Colleen O’Rourke (Floral Park, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) and Morgan Windisch (Williston Park, NY/Sacred Heart Academy).
Freshman midfielder Madeline Thibeault (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./William T. Dwyer) scored two goals and freshman midfielder Sarah Milafsky (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) and senior attacker Elizabeth Noonan (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) added one apiece for the Mariners, now 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the Landmark.
Siepietowski and Goss combined for five goals as the Royals erased a 1-0 deficit by scoring 13 straight goals on their way to opening up a 14-3 halftime lead.
The Royals held a 29-11 advantage in shots and a 22-12 margin in ground balls. Scranton also won 17 of the 23 draw controls, including three each by Goss, Pfail and sophomore midfielder Nikole Sullivan (Sparkill, NY/Tappan Zee).
Sophomores Marne Rossetti (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) and Grace Campbell (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) split time evenly in goal and combined to make three saves for the Royals, while Merchant Marine’s Rachel Smith (Broomfield, Colo./Broomfield) stopped seven shots.
Goss, who was honored prior to the start of today’s game as part of Senior Day festivities on campus, went over the 170-point career mark with her three goals today. She now has 172 points in her career (161 goals, 11 assists), which is the seventh-most in Scranton history.
The Royals will return to Landmark Conference action this Wednesday, April 15, against Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
