Editor's Note:  Megan Azzalina was previously listed as having tied the school record for most career wins in singles in Saturday's match against Elizabethtown.  It was discovered this morning  that a match against Drew University on April 12, 2015, was missing from this year's statistical report.   Including the results from that match, Azzalina is now the Royals' all-time record-holder in wins in both singles and doubles competition.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The University of Scranton women’s tennis team’s three-year reign as Landmark Conference champions ended Saturday with a 5-2 loss to Elizabethtown College in the title match.

Senior Megan Azzalina (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame) won both of her matches for the Royals today, teaming with fellow senior Nicole Mahaffey (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) to defeat Lauren Berry and Taylor Helsel, 8-6, at the number two doubles to tie the match at 1-1.

In singles, she downed Kaitlyn Pellegrino in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, to slice the Blue Jays’ lead down to 4-2.  Elizabethtown, however, wrapped up its first Landmark title when Lauren Berry, the tournament’s most valuable player (MVP), overcame a 1-0 deficit in sets to defeat Mahaffey at three, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Elizabethtown, ranked 19th in the region and now 16-3 overall, took a 1-0 lead when Madison McCall and Sam Procak defeated seniorLisa-Marie Lanciotti (Northport, NY/Kings Park) and sophomore Emily Machado (Fishkill, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) at the number three doubles, 8-3.  The Blue Jays regained the lead, 2-1, when Christine Evangelista and Pellegrino downed junior Emily Walsh (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) and freshman Julia Frattaroli (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) at the number one doubles, 8-6.

In singles, straight-set wins by Taylor Helsel over Machado at six and McCall over Frattaroli at four, 6-1, 6-4, extended Elizabethtown’s lead to 4-1.

With today’s wins, Azzalina ends her career with a 47-19 record in singles and 46-20 in doubles.  Her 47 singles’ wins breaks Ashlee Wydra former record of 46 and her 46 doubles victories are the most in school history.  Mahaffey picked up her 41th career victory in doubles today, which is the second-most in Scranton history, and posted a 42-17 career record in singles.  Lanciotti ends her career with a 27-8 mark in singles and 21-10 in doubles.
