LANCASTER, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team saw its seven-game winning streak snapped at the hands of Franklin & Marshall in a 13-7 loss on Wednesday at Tylus Field.
Scranton (7-2) fell behind at halftime, 7-2, after Franklin & Marshall (6-2) scored four straight goals to end the second period. The Royals fought back to 7-4 with a pair of goals to start the second half, but the Diplomats ran off the next six goals to put the game away.
Senior attackman Andrew Marone (Morristown, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) and freshman attackman Matt Haemmerle (Hillsdale, N.J./Bergen Catholic) each had two goals to lead Scranton. Senior midfielder Nicholas Swift (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh), junior midfielder John Sheridan (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) and sophomore attackman Matt Carfaro (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris) added a goal apiece.
Franklin & Marshall held a 36-30 edge in shots while the Royals had a narrow 12-11 edge in face-offs won. Swift and Haemmerle had two ground balls each to lead Scranton, which committed 14 turnovers while forcing 13 by Franklin & Marshall.
Scranton will return to action on Wednesday, March 29, when the Royals host Kean at 7 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
