Carfaro Scores Four Times, as Men's Lacrosse Rolls Past King's, 10-4

SCRANTON, Pa. - Junior Matt Carfaro (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris) scored four goals - three of which came in the second half - as the University of Scranton men's lacrosse team pulled away in the third quarter, rolling past visiting King's 10-4, at windy Fitzpatrick Field on Wednesday evening.

With the win, Scranton evened their record on the year to 2-2, while King's fell to 1-2 with the defeat.

To open, the Royals scored a pair of goals in the first 15 minutes of action, as freshman Michael Elefonte (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and Carfaro got the scoring started for Scranton in the first quarter with two unassisted goals.

In the second frame, King's scored their first goal of the contest three minutes into the quarter, but Scranton answered the first tally of the day by the Monarchs with two goals of their own, both of which were scored unassisted by junior Conor Carey (Long Beach, N.Y./Chaminade) and freshman Connor Kirkwood (Millburn, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) to extend the lead out to 4-1.

After King's answered with a goal to make it a 4-2 match, freshman Peter Roche (Chester, N.J./Mendham) scored the final goal of the half for Scranton, as Carey assisted the score with 3:59 left in the first half to give the Royals a 5-2 lead into intermission.

In the third quarter, the Scranton offense scored four unanswered goals to distance themselves even further from King's at 9-2.

Carfaro scored the final two goals of the barrage, while seniorWilliam Joyce (Bethesda, Md./St. John's College H.S.) and Elefonte scored the first two goals of the run.

FreshmanKieran Fallon (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) was credited with an assist on Carfaro's first goal of the period, as King's ended the scoring run by Scranton with a goal late in the third quarter, with the Royals holding a 9-4 lead into the final 15 minutes of regulation.

There, King's could not muster much offense to get back in the match, scoring their final goal of the contest with two minutes left. The Royals' last goal was scored by Carfaro off an assist by sophomore Tim Dolan (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), as Scranton finished off a convincing six-goal win at home.

Overall, Scranton dominated on offense, outshooting the Monarchs by a 38-21 margin, while also going 15-of-18 on faceoffs in the contest. 14 of those faceoffs were won by juniorAdam Drury (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), who also recorded 10 ground balls in the victory.

In net, senior Alex Malecki (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) notched six saves to record the victory.

The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday, traveling to SUNY-Geneseo for another non-conference match-up. Things get underway at 1 p.m.
