MADISON, N.J. -- Senior Christine Kiefer (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) recorded the 100th hit of her career in game two, as the University of Scranton softball team split a Landmark Conference doubleheader on Sunday at Drew, bashing their way to a 13-2 win in game one (in five innings), before falling in game two, 3-2, in eight innings.
With the split, Scranton moved to 16-13 overall and 3-7 in the Landmark Conference, while Drew is now 9-20 overall and 3-7 in the Landmark with the results.
In the first game of the afternoon, Scranton blew open the game in the third and fourth innings, scoring five runs, apiece, in each frame to extend what was a 3-0 lead entering the top of the third to a 13-1 lead entering the fifth.
Down by 12 entering the bottom of the fifth, Drew was only able to plate a single run, which was not enough to keep the game going, as Scranton won their third straight game via a run rule in five innings.
At the dish in game one, eight of the nine batters in the Scranton line-up had multiple hits, as the Royals smashed 19 hits in the win.
Leading the way for Scranton in game one was freshman Megan Zinn (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan), who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored.
Elsewhere, both sophomore Molly Hampsey (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) and senior Shannon Stricker (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell-Egan) each went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while senior Kaitlin O'Sullivan (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy) was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored.

Rounding out the top performances in game one at the plate were freshman Casey DeSarno (Wall Township, N.J./Wall) who was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Kiefer, who went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
In the pitching circle, junior Morgan Rentzheimer (Laurys Station, Pa./Parkland) coasted to her 11th victory of the year (she is now 11-5 on the season), as she allowed two runs on five hits over five innings of work, while striking out six,
In game two, runs were much harder to come by for Scranton, as a scoreless tie was snapped in the bottom of the fifth inning when the host Rangers plated two runs to take a 2-0 lead on the Royals.
Scranton, however, battled back. First in the sixth, DeSarno scored Stricker on a ground out to slice the Drew lead down to 2-1 entering the seventh. In that inning, Scranton tied the game up at 2-2, as O'Sullivan smacked an RBI double, scoring Titor to send the game to extra innings.
But, in the top half of the eighth, Scranton went down in order, and Drew took advantage, scoring the game winning run in the bottom half to earn a doubleheader split with the 3-2 win in extra frames.
Overall in game two, Zinn and Stricker were both 2-for-4, as the Royals hit four doubles in the loss. In the pitching circle, senior reliever Emily Simon (Freehold, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) was handed the loss after allowing the game-winning run in the eighth.
