Junior forward Gracie McClatchy (Havertown, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) had a hat trick and added an assist as The University of Scranton field hockey team rolled past William Paterson on Wednesday night, 4-1, in the team's first game on Weiss Field.

McClatchy's hat trick was the first of her career and matches her total goal output from all of last season. Her seven points are also a single-game career high.

Scranton (1-0) found itself in a 1-0 deficit when William Paterson (1-2) scored just 5:33 into the contest. But junior midfielder Nicolette Keale (Wall Township, N.J./Wall) scored three minutes later on a feed from McClatchy to tie the score.

Then McClatchy took over the scoring duties, scoring in the 29th minute to give the Royals a 2-1 lead that they took into halftime. She scored again in the 41st and 66th minutes to put the game away. All three of her goals were assisted by senior forward Elizabeth Tolley (Brookside, N.J./West Morris Mendham), who now has four assists on the season after recording a career-high five last fall.

Scranton enjoyed a 13-5 edge in s hots, including 9-4 in shots on goal. William Paterson used a late flurry to hold a 9-6 advantage in penalty corners.

The field hockey team will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 8, at Weiss Field when the Royals host Elmira in a non-conference matchup at 1 p.m.
