SCRANTON - The University of Scranton wrestling team used a strong finish at the end of their starting line-up to pull past visiting Elizabethtown on Tuesday night in a 32-13 win inside the John Long Center.

With the win, the Royals moved to 12-5 overall on the year, as Scranton has already won the third most dual matches in a season in program history. Elizabethtown dropped to 0-2 in duals in the defeat.

Here are some highlights from the evening.

  • The Royals got the evening started on the right foot at 125 pounds, sophomore Matthew Murawski (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley - Old Tappan) came from behind and pulled out a 6-5 victory in overtime to put Scranton up, 3-0.

  • After an E-Town win by pin, freshman Anthony Clarizio (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) continued his impressive rookie season with a win by major decision (9-0) at 141 pounds to put Scranton back up, 7-6, on E-Town.

  • E-Town, however, came back with victories at 149 pounds and 157 pounds to take a 13-7 lead on the Royals.

  • First, at 165, freshman Jeremiah Oakes (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) won by major decision, 9-1, which was followed up by a pinfall win (2:37) by junior William Laughlin (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) that put Scranton up for good at 17-13 over the Blue Jays.

  • After a pair of victories by forfeit by junior Aidan McNally (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) at 184 pounds and Kiel Pechko (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) at 197 pounds, senior Keegan Connelly (Schnecksville, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) rallied from an early deficit to take a win by decision, 10-5, to cap off the victory for Scranton.

The University of Scranton wrestling team returns to action on Sunday, traveling just south to Wilkes for the 2020 John Reese Duals. Action starts at 11 a.m.
