Wrestling Finishes Off Dual Meet Season with Victories over King's, Keystone

WILKES-BARRE - A dual meet season for the record books was completed in style on Friday night, as The University of Scranton wrestling team coasted past host King's (39-9) and Keystone (45-3).

With the victories, the Royals finish their already best dual meet season in program history with an 18-8 overall mark. Here are some highlights from the evening in Wilkes-Barre.

  • In the King's match, Scranton won every match in the line-up but two, rolling through six straight victories at the end of the line-up to coast to a win.

  • Three Royals had wins via pinfall vs. King's - freshman Anthony Clarizio (Cedar Grove, N.J/Cedar Grove) at 141 pounds (3:09), senior Kevin Pompilio (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan) at 157 pounds and senior Keegan Connelly (Schnecksville, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) at 285 pounds (0:53). For Clarizio, it was his 16th pinfall win of the year, while Connelly registered his seventh pin of the year and 21st pin of his career.

  • Elsewhere, junior William Laughlin (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) blanked his opponent at 174 pounds, 10-0, to earn a win by major decision, while senior Aidan McNally (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) was an 18-3 victor by technical fall at 184 pounds.

  • Winning by decision against King's were senior T.J. Conlon (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) at 165 pounds (4-3) and junior Kiel Pechko (Ridgewood, N.J/Ridgewood) at 197 pounds (7-3). Finally, to start the match, sophomore Matthew Murawski (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley - Old Tappan) earned a win via forfeit at 125 pounds.

  • Against Keystone, Scranton won every match but one in the starting lineup to roll to a big win. Full results from the match were not available at press time. 

The University of Scranton wrestling will not be idle until Feb. 29, when they head to Ithaca, N.Y. for the 2020 NCAA Division III Mideast Regionals. Action runs through Mar. 1.
