Box Score HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's soccer team (3-2-3, 0-0-2 Landmark) battled the Juniata Eagles (2-2-2, 0-0-2 Landmark) to a scoreless draw in Landmark Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium in Huntingdon.
This marked the sixth shutout of the year for a Royals defensive unit that has impressed all season and has conceded just three goals.
In the first half, senior Bryce Schiltz (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) nearly put the Royals on the board in the seventh minute, but his shot was turned away by Eagles' keeper Arun Subramanian. Scranton senior goalie Jake Hodlofski (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) had to make a couple of saves in the opening 45 minutes to keep the game scoreless and perhaps the best chance for either side in the opening stanza came in the 41st minute as a shot from sophomore Anthony Rizzi (Bloomfield, N.J/Bloomfield) was cleared off the goal line by a Juniata defender. The Royals held a 5-2 shot advantage in the first half.
The second half featured more good defense from both sides and Hodlofski made a key save on the Eagles' Braden Whisler in the 70th minute to preserve the shutout. Scranton had a couple of chances in the final 10 minutes of regulation when junior Christian Arcos' (Bayonne, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) attempt rang off the crossbar in the 82nd minute and a shot from sophomore Drew Greenblatt (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan) trickled just wide of the net a few minutes later.
In the two overtime periods, the two teams combined for five shots and Subramanian made a save on Arcos in the final minute of the double overtime session.
Overall, Scranton held a 12-6 advantage in shots on the afternoon led by five from Arcos and three by Greenblatt.
Hodlofski made four saves in the scoreless draw to register the 14th shutout of his career at The University, while Subramanian tallied three saves of his own for the Eagles.
The University of Scranton men's soccer team continues their longest road trip of the season with a trip to take on Franklin & Marshall in non-conference action on Wednesday night. Action is slated to get underway at 7 p.m.
