For the first time in 375 days, The University of Scranton baseball team takes to the field on Saturday, as the Royals battle Elizabethtown in a four-game series this weekend. Scranton will host a seven-inning doubleheader on Saturday with first pitch at Volpe Field slated for 12:30 p.m., while Elizabethtown will host a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 12:30 p.m. with a nine-inning game followed by a seven-inning contest.
The Royals are slated to play a 24-game schedule with a four game series each weekend between now and early May against the six other Landmark Conference foes that sponsor baseball. All seven teams will qualify for the Landmark Conference Baseball Tournament that is slated to begin in mid-May.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, fans will not be allowed to attend any Scranton baseball games home or away during their 2021 season. However, fans will still be able to follow all the action for the Royals throughout the season.

Royals News & Notes
- The Royals return several key pieces from a 2020 team that had the season cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will look to continue to move up the Landmark Conference standings.
- Leading the way offensively for the Royals are senior outfielders Connor Harding (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) and Kevin Johnson (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central). Harding hit .500 (14-28) with a home run, four RBI, three doubles and two stolen bases in seven games a season ago, while Johnson hit .333 (7-21) with two RBI, four runs scored and a team-leading four stolen bases.
- Entering the season, Harding, a 2019 D3Baseball.com All-American and Landmark Conference Player of the Year, is the program's all-time leader in batting average (.418) and triples (11) and ranks third in stolen bases (32).
- On the mound, the Royals return a number of young arms that flashed potential during the abbreviated 2020 season including sophomore right-hander Hunter Ralston (Duryea, Pa./Pittston Area) who did not allow an earned run in 10.0 innings pitched and tossed a seven inning complete game against Albright to earn Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Week honors. Fellow sophomore Daniel Johnson (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Immaculata) posted a 2.25 ERA in four appearances and classmate Braden Breithaupt (Canadensis, Pa./Stroudsburg) did not allow a run in four innings of work, while junior southpaw Ryan Heiser (New Milford, N.J./Saint Joseph Regional) fanned seven in 7 2/3 IP.
- Harding and senior Alex DeRosa (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) will serve as team captains for Scranton during the 2021 campaign.
