SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (4-1, 4-1 Landmark) suffered their first setback of the season with a 6-3 loss to the Moravian Greyhounds (7-0, 6-0 Landmark) on Saturday afternoon at the Royal Courts in Scranton.
Prior to the match, the team's senior class of Kristen Denniston (Hawley, Pa./Wallenpaupack), Emily Kelly (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson), Tatiana Klacko (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) and Lindsay Roberto (Princeton, N.J./Notre Dame) was honored. The Class of 2021 has led the Royals to 37 victories over the last three plus seasons as well as the 2018 Landmark Conference Championship and a second round NCAA Tournament.
Kelly and Klacko captured the No. 2 doubles match with an 8-3 victory over Moravian's Kristen Cassidy/Brooke Adams, while the duo of Denniston and junior Claire Loughlin (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) notched an 8-3 victory of their own in No. 3 doubles to give the Royals an early 2-1 lead.
However, Moravian captured five of the six singles matches en route to the win. Kelly won a three-set thriller (6-1, 3-6, 6-2) over Julianne Cassidy at No. 4 singles.
Scranton closes out the regular season with a match against Juniata on Sunday afternoon. First serve at Birchwood Tennis Center in Clarks Summit is set for 2 p.m.
