The University of Scranton men's golf team extended their dual-match winning streak to 52 straight on Wednesday, as the Royals took part in two events at two separate courses and won them both, getting past Clarks Summit (339-404) at Stone Hedge Country Club and Marywood (297-338) at Glenmaura National Golf Club.
With the victories, Scranton is now 8-0 in duals on the 2021 fall season.
Against Clarks Summit at Stone Hedge, senior John Shaughnessy (Florida, N.Y./S.S. Seward Institute) was the medalist, as he fired a 77 (+6) on the afternoon. Elsewhere, fellow senior Eric Odell (Honesdale, Pa./Scranton Prep) carded an 85, while sophomore Kieran Gruby (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) had an 88.
Rounding out the scores for Scranton against Clarks Summit was sophomore Todd Monahan (Moosic, Pa./Riverside), who shot an 89 and fellow sophomore Cooper Robinson (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central), who rounded out the line-up with a 90.
In Moosic at Glenmaura, the Royals line-up was strong, as all five members shot in the 70's on an always tough par 71 layout.
Leading the way was junior Ethan Zawatski (Dallas, Pa./Dallas), who fired a low round of 72 (+1) to lead the Royals to a victory. The round matched a season-low for Zawatski, as well.
Elsewhere, freshman Stephen Butler (Souderton, Pa./Souderton Area) and graduate student Calvin Ralph (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) each carded a 74 (+3), while junior Matthew Fleming (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) finished with a 77. Rounding out the Royals' line-up was senior Nicholas Campanelli (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional), who shot a 79 on the afternoon.
The University of Scranton men's golf team is slated to return to action on Thursday, as they travel to the Penn State Hazleton Invitational at Wyoming Valley Country Club in Hanover Twp. Action gets underway at 12 p.m.
