DALLAS, Pa. - The University of Scranton men's golf team was absolutely dominant in their first event of the 2021-22 season on Tuesday, as the Royals (295) coasted past host Misericordia (357) and King's (397) in a tri-dual match at the par 72 Irem Temple Country Club.
The team score of 295 was one of the lowest for Scranton in a four-score event in program history, coming in at 7th lowest all-time and the lowest for the team in an event since 2014.
Leading the Royals on the afternoon at Irem was junior Ethan Zawatski (Dallas, Pa./Dallas), who picked up where he left off in the spring with a low score of 72 (E). The score was the lowest of Zawatski's career at Scranton and the lowest for a Royal since the 2019 season.
Elsewhere, freshman Stephen Butler (Souderton, Pa./Souderton Area) had an impressive collegiate debut for the Royals, firing a two-over par 74. Joining Butler in carding a 74 was graduate student Calvin Ralph (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley), who returned to the Royals' lineup with an impressive two-over score.
Rounding out the Royals' starting line-up was juniorMatthew Fleming (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South), who finished with a three-over 75. Meanwhile, senior Nicholas Campanelli (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) opened his season with a 79 (seven-over) to round out a dominating day for Scranton.
The University of Scranton men's golf team returns to action on Saturday, as they head back to Dallas and Huntsville Golf Club to take on Wilkes. Things get underway at 12 p.m.
