Box Score HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The University of Scranton field hockey team (11-4, 6-1 Landmark) scored in each quarter and rolled to a 6-0 victory over the Juniata Eagles (3-15, 2-5 Landmark) to close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon at Knox Stadium in Huntingdon.
With the win, the Royals secured the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference Tournament and will host No. 4 Moravian in semifinal action on Wednesday night at Weiss Field with start time slated for 7 p.m.
Scranton opened the scoring just over five minutes into the game as junior Katie Redding (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) redirected an initial shot by senior Maeve Kenny (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen) to take a 1-0 lead. Juniata nearly tied the game in the 12th minute, but sophomore goalie Gianna Travia (Havertown, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) turned away a shot by Miranda Madara to keep it 1-0 for the time being. After Eagles goalie Brittany McMullen made a save in the 17th minute, Redding struck for her second goal of the game just under a minute later and added an assist on a goal by fellow junior Bridget Abraldes (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) in the 25th minute to give the Royals a 3-0 edge at halftime.
Just 0:37 into the third quarter, sophomore Reagan Dolan (Broomall, Pa./Bonner & Prendergast) joined the scoresheet as she beat Amanda Puza with a penalty stroke goal to make it a 4-0 game. The goal was Dolan's seventh of the season and she also added an assist later in the game. Redding completed the hat trick with a goal in the 49th minute and Abraldes closed the scoring with her second of the day in the 56th minute.
The hat trick was the fourth of Redding's career and it also marked the sixth multi-goal game of Abraldes' career.
On the season, Redding leads the Landmark and ranks in the top 20 nationally with 20 goals on the season. Her 20 goal season is the third in program history and the first by a Royals player since Meredith Campbell scored 31 in 2017.
Scranton held a dominant 18-1 shot advantage in the contest led by six from Redding and Travia made one save to notch her fourth career shutout.
