HANOVER TWP., Pa. – Freshman Liam Burtis (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) shot a 73 (+3) for the second straight match and The University of Scranton men's golf team captured the team title at the King's Quad Match on Wednesday at Wyoming Valley Country Club.
The Royals won the team title with a score of 302 (+22), 28 strokes ahead of the second place finisher Misericordia at 330 (+50). Rounding out the team standings were Wilkes at 337 (+57) and the host Monarchs at 338 (+58).
With the trio of victories, Scranton has now won 59 straight dual matches dating back to the 2017-18 season.
Burtis' 73 comes on the heels of his one over par 73 at last week's Moravian Invitational. Junior Matthew Fleming (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) carded a 75 (+5) for the Royals and senior Nicholas Campanelli (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) added a 76 (+6) on the day.
Misericordia's Ethan Zawatski took home medalist honors with an even par 71.
Elsewhere for Scranton, senior John Shaughnessy (Florida, N.Y./S.S. Seward Institute) shot a 78 (+8) and junior Collin Ennis (Pleasant Mount, Pa./Scranton Prep) carded an 81 (+11) as the Royals accounted for five of the top eight scores in the quad match.
The University of Scranton men's golf team is right back in action tomorrow with a dual match against Wilkes at Huntsville Golf Club in Dallas. Tee time is slated for 1 p.m.
