Box Score

SELINSGROVE, PA (April 8, 2022) -- The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team outscored Susquehanna University 6-0 in the fourth quarter of Friday night's Landmark Conference game to earn a 16-8 win at Sassafras Field.

The Royals wasted no time getting on the board as senior Halle Conklin (Point Lookout, N.Y. / Kellenberg Memorial) scored the games opening goal off a free position attempt in the first minute of play. Freshman Allie Halfpenny (Mount Laurel, N.J. / Lenape) followed up less than a minute later with a goa off a feed from fellow freshman Grace Lane (Long Beach, N.Y. / Sacred Heart Academy) to give Scranton an early 2-0 lead. Following a score from the Riverhawks, sophomore Devyn Tanajewski (Ringwood, N.J. / Lakeland Regional) made it 3-1 as she scored her first goal of the game off a free position attempt. Freshman Molly McCarren (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) and Halfpenny added late tallys for Scranton to give the squad a 5-2 lead headed into the second period.

Susquehanna made a push early in the second half as they leveled the game at 6-6 in the middle stages of the second period. Scranton broke the deadlock in the late stages of the first half as junior Caroline Miller (Huntington, N.Y. / Elwood-John H. Glenn) and McCarren scored back-to-back goals to give the Royals an 8-6 lead at halftime.

Conklin got things going in the third quarter for Scranton as she scored just over a minute into to advance the Royal lead to 9-6. Both sides exchanged goals throughout the third period as Scranton held a 10-8 lead headed into the fourth quarter.

The Royals played lights out in the fourth quarter, scoring six unanswered goals and blanking the Riverhawks. Tanajewski scored the first goal of the quarter before Conklin scored consecutive goals to build upon the advantage. Sophomore Erin Reich (Rockville Centre, N.Y. / South Side) then added to the tally as she scored a pair of goals before senior Amanda Whelan (Massapequa Park, N.Y. / Massapequa) capped off the night with her first goal of the season.

Conklin led the Royals with a season-high four goals while Tanajewski also notched a hat trick. Freshman Lauren Boldis (Merrick, N.Y. / Sanford H. Calhoun) recorded nine saves in goal for Scranton and earned the win. Continuing her strong play on the defensive end was senior Emily Schum (East Hanover, N.J. / Morris Catholic) who finished with six ground balls and three caused turnovers.

The Royals will return to action on Thursday when they host Goucher University at 4:00 PM at Weiss Field.
