Balanced Scoring Leads Women's Lacrosse Past Kean in Dominant Win, 17-3

UNION, N.J. – Six different players tallied multiple goals and The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team (3-6) cruised to a 17-3 victory over the Kean Cougars (2-6) in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday night at Kean Alumni Stadium in Union.

The Royals got on the board just 3:05 into the game as sophomore Molly McCarren (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) took a feed from junior Devyn Tanajewski (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) and found the back of the net for an early 1-0 lead. Tanajewski struck at the 9:28 mark to make it 2-0 and Scranton used a dominant first quarter to take control of the game as they led 7-0 after one. Sophomore Grace Lane (Long Beach, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) and junior Kayleigh Stalter (Lynbrook, N.J./Lynbrook) both scored two goals apiece in the period as Stalter scored twice in the final 2:09.

After a Kean turnover at the 11:22 mark of the second quarter, junior Lauren Crotty (Long Beach, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) scored just eight seconds later and classmate Erin Reich (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) followed 1:28 after Crotty for a 9-0 advantage. Tallies from Lane and sophomore Catherine McGlynn (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) completed the first half scoring for head coach Chrissy Trescavage's team who took an 11-1 lead into the locker room.

Sophomore Lauren Corrado (Oreland, Pa./Springfield Twp.) scored with 0:12 remaining in the third quarter and the Royals then scored five of the six total goals in the fourth quarter to preserve the decisive victory. Freshmen Mia Dinnocenzio (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall Central) and Maeve Kelleher (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) both scored their first career goals in the afore-mentioned fourth quarter.

Lane led the way offensively with a hat trick, while McCarren, McGlynn, Reich, Stalter and Tanajewski all added two goals apiece. Stalter also added an assist and three ground balls and Tanajewski added an assist of her own and two draw controls.

McCarren tallied a team-high two caused turnovers in the victory.

In goal for the Royals, sophomore Lauren Boldis (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) and freshman Eva Guerino (Hopewell, N.J./Pennington School) each played 30 minutes in net as the former made two saves and Guerino made three.

Lauren Pluta scored two of the Cougars' three goals.

Scranton will host Misericordia in search of a third straight win on Thursday afternoon with action at Weiss Field slated to get underway at 4 p.m.
