SCRANTON, PA (March 29, 2023) -- Junior Matthew McAree (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset) recorded a career-high eight points on four goals and four assists to lead The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team to a commanding 17-3 over Utica at Weiss Field.

With the win, the Royals move to 7-3 on the season. 

The Pioneers scored the opening goal of the game at the 13:36 mark but the Royals answered quick and tied the game up at 1-1 less than a minute later as senior Matt Solleder (Ramsey, N.J. / Don Bosco Prep) found the back of the net. Scranton then scored three straight to close out the opening period with a 4-1 lead over Utica.

The Royals added three more goals to their tally in the second quarter including a pair from McAree to give Scranton a 7-1 advantage headed into halftime. 

Scranton kept things rolling in the third period as six different goal scorers found the back of the net to extend the lead to 13-1 with one period remaining. 

Freshman Kyle Holmes (Bridgewater, N.J. / Bridgewater-Raritan) scored three goals in the fourth quarter as the Royals went on to defeat Utica 17-3. 

Senior Christopher Crapanzano (Basking Ridge, N.J. / Ridge), freshman Eric Reisenwitz (Drexel Hill, PA /Haverford), and sophomore AJ Perkell (Valley Stream, N.Y. / Hewlett) combined for 17-22 on faceoffs in the win. 

The men's lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday when they take on Elizabethtown College in Landmark Conference action at 1:00 PM at Weiss Field.
