Box Score

SCRANTON, Pa. -- The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team was defeated 16-10 by Moravian in Landmark Conference action at Weiss Field on Thursday afternoon.

With the loss, the Royals move to 5-7 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Sophomore Molly McCarren (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) opened up the scoring on the day with a goal in the opening two minutes of the game off an assist from fellow sophomore Grace Lane (Long Beach, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy). The Greyhounds responded with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead with just over nine minutes remaining in the first period. The Royals followed up with a three goal run of their own to take a two goal lead. Both sides added goals at the end of the opening period as Scranton held a 5-3 lead headed into the second period. Lane added a pair of goals for Scranton in the second period while Moravian added three goals to its tally and the Royals led 7-6 at the end of the first half.

In the third quarter, junior Kayleigh Stalter (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) opened the scoring just 1:39 in for an 8-6 lead. Following a Moravian goal eight plus minutes later, Lane took a feed from Stalter and found the back of the net that made it a 9-7 game for the time being. However, this was where the Greyhounds began to rally and scored two goals over the final 3:17 to tie the game at nine apiece headed into the fourth quarter.

Moravian then scored four goals in the first 4:42 of the fourth quarter to take control of the game and held a 13-9 lead after the four-goal run with just over 10 minutes to play. Despite a goal from Stalter at the 3:21 mark that brought the Royals back within four at 14-10, the Greyhounds were able to hold on for the victory.

Lane led the Royals offensively with five points on four goals and an assist, while Stalter and junior Erin Reich (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) tallied two goals apiece. Sophomore Shannon DiDominica (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) added a goal and five draw controls on the day and junior Devyn Tanajewski (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) recorded an assist, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
