WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomores Juliano Nieto (Archbald, Pa./Holy Cross) and Gehrig Shannon (Bernardsville, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) both carded a 74 (+3) and The University of Scranton men's golf team sits in second place after day one of the D3 Elite Invitational on Saturday at Williamsport Country Club.
The Royals posted a team score of 301 (+17) on day one, just five strokes off the pace of leader Franklin & Marshall at 296 (+12).
74 marks a career low for Nieto and also matches the best round of Shannon's career as well. Elsewhere for Scranton, junior Danny Harding (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) fired a 76 (+5) and sophomore Jack Novis (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) added a 77 (+6).
Fellow sophomore Luke Merlan (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke) rounded things out for the Royals with an 88 (+17).
Scranton is slated to tee off in round two at 12:40 p.m. on Sunday.
