Hopkins of Women's Track & Field Earns Peggy's Scranton Athlete of the Week Honors

Sophomore Emily Hopkins (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) of The University of Scranton women's track & field team won a gold medal and broke the program record in the 1,500 meters at Saturday's Coach P Invitational. For her efforts, she has been named Peggy's Scranton Athlete of the Week for the period ending Apr. 21, 2024.

This marks the first career Peggy's Scranton Athlete of the Week selection for Hopkins.

The Scranton native won the 1,500 meters with a program-record time of 4:45.58, surpassing the previous record of 4:46.18 that had been set by Jessica Hoffmann on Apr. 23, 2022. Her time is the third-fastest in the Landmark Conference this season and the eighth-best in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

During the outdoor season thus far, Hopkins has posted a trio of top-two finishes.

The Royals are back in action on Saturday for the Paul Kaiser Classic that will be hosted by Shippensburg University beginning at 9 a.m.
